A delegation from the Turkish State Electricity Trading and Contracting Company (TETAS) is expected to visit Baku in order to discuss a project to send an electricity supply from Azerbaijan to Turkey through Georgia called an 'Energy Bridge', TETAS General Director Haci Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Tuesday.

Although Gokkaya did not mention the exact date of the visit, he did not exclude that it may be held next month during which it is expected to hold a meeting at Azerenergy (electricity generation and distribution in Azerbaijan).

During the forthcoming meeting, he said it is also expected to discuss the terms of the start date for electricity exports, as well as the issue as to whether the private or public sector will engage in the expors.

Azerbaijan intends to export electricity to the amount of 750 million kilowatt hours per year under the Energy Bridge project to Turkey via Georgia, Gokkaya told Trend earlier.
Azerenergy said earlier that the company will start exporting electricity to Turkey via Georgia this year.

At present reconstruction of transmission facilities is underway in order to ensure export operations, a source in Azerenergy said.

"After the technical work is completed, electricity export to Turkey will be possible within this year," the source said.

Electricity exports from Azerbaijan to Turkey are planned under the Energy Bridge project with aims to connect the power systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

The power line transmission to the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia should be reconstructed in order to ensure the exports. The Georgian side in turn must also complete construction work on its territory.
