Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the hegemonic powers are promoting Shiaphobia and Iranophobia to cover their own problems and to safeguard Israel.

Khamenei made the remarks while addressing several foreign ambassadors of Islamic countries to Tehran and a number of senior Iranian officials, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on May 27.

Khamenei went on to say that the Islamic concepts have failed to be properly comprehended.

"Killing Muslims and kidnapping their girls under the name of Islam, shows that they can't understand the teachings of Islam," he added.

Khamenei was referring to the Nigerian Islamist Boko Haram group, which kidnapped some 270 girls from a local school on April 14. Fears for the fate of the kidnapped girls turned even more nightmarish on May 5 when the leader of the group announced plans to sell the girls.

Iran's Supreme Leader also noted that the "Islamic Awakening" in the world can not be stopped, underlining that unity among the Muslims is a necessity.

Although the recent revolutions in Arab states are often called "Arab Spring", Iranian authorities named it "Islamic Awakening" and a continuation of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979. This term was originally used by Khamenei himself.
