The consumption of liquid fuel including diesel oil and fuel oil in Iran over one week, ending on June 19 amounted for 796 million liters.

The figure indicates a rise by 4.3 percent compared to the preceding week.

The number relates to different sections, including power plants, consuming 595.9 million liters of diesel oil and 200.1 million liters of fuel oil, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported June 21.

The peak consumption for diesel oil was registered at 100.6 million liters on June 16(Tuesday), and the lowest record was 59.7 million liters on June 19(Friday).

Also, the peak consumption for fuel oil was 34.5 million liters which was registered June 18 (Thursday), and the lowest record was 24 million liters on June 15 (Monday).

The report added that the average consumption for the week was 85.128 million liters for diesel oil and 28.585 million liters for fuel oil.

Iran has reduced the supply of liquid fuel to power plants as it plans to replace liquid fuel with natural gas.

Over 50 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to the country's power plants last fiscal year (ended on March 20), 15 billion cubic meters more compared to its preceding year.

The supply of liquid fuel to power plants was decreased by 1.8 billion liters in the past Iranian fiscal year.

Iran's power sector consumed about 12.686 billion cubic meters of natural gas since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2015) to June 5, 16.5 percent more year on year.

Iranian thermal power plants also consumed about 307 million liters of gas oil as well as 646 million liters of fuel oil for electricity generation during the period.

Over 83 percent of total electricity output in Iran is generated in thermal power plants, fueled by diesel oil, fuel oil and natural gas.
