Iran wants to free its economy by using diplomacy as a tool, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at a meeting dedicated to the war veterans in Tehran.

"We should free from enemies as the new Khorramshahr, the entire economy and science around the world have been occupied unjustly," he said at the ceremony of Iran's marking the liberation of the city from Iraqi forces which took place in 1982.

Today, your beautiful economic activity has been occupied by the group P5+1 and the United Nations, he asserted, IRNA reported May 24.

"They are not letting us sell the oil that belongs to people so that people may live. Our land of oil has been occupied by superpowers, we must liberate our oil Khorramshahr," the president said.

Rouhani was apparently referring to diplomatic moves in his administration to bring a long-lasting dispute over its nuclear program to an end.

While coming to power, the Rouhani administration started a fresh round of talks with the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) on its nuclear program which has become an alibi for the powers to impose sanctions on the Iranian economy.

The Rouhani administration says it seeks a win-win situation from the talks where sanctions would be lifted and Iran would limit and clarify its nuclear activities. The sides are to reach a final deal by the end of June.
