Iran continues to meet its commitments under the nuclear deal reached last year between Tehran and the six world powers, said a source in the US Department of State.
"As the US president [Barack Obama] and Secretary of State John Kerry have both said recently, and as was confirmed in the IAEA's most recent report in March, Iran continues to meet its commitments under the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action aka nuclear deal)," Sam Werberg, press officer for the Office of Iranian Affairs at US Department of State, told Trend April 12.
He further said that as long as Iran continues to meet its commitments, the US side will continue to meet its.
Commenting on the Tehran's recent disputed missile tests, Werberg said that while not a violation of the JCPOA, the tests are inconsistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
"For that reason, we submitted a report, along with France, Germany and the UK, on these launches to the Security Council and have pressed the Security Council to follow up on a timely manner," Werberg said, adding that the US condemns these launches as dangerous, destabilizing, and provocative.
Paragraph 3 of Annex B of resolution 2231 (2015), adopted by the UN Security Council on July 20, 2015, endorsing the JCPOA, calls upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear warheads, including launches using such ballistic missile technology.
"We obviously condemn all threats to Israel, and will stand with Israel to defend itself against such threats," the US diplomat said, while responding to a question about the missiles which test-fired during Tehran's recent military drills in March, written on them in Hebrew "Israel must be wiped out."
Early in March Iran test-fired several ballistic missiles from several bases across the country as part of a massive missile drills.
While a couple of Western and regional states claims the recent tests have violated a UN resolution, Iranian officials have constantly reiterated that Tehran's ballistic missile tests do not violate the nuclear agreement it reached with the P5+1 group of countries and are not in breach of a United Nations Security Council resolution.
