Baku, Azerbaijan, May 29

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Former Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili has said that the U.S. puts pressure on Iran to close the Fordo facility because the U.S. is unable to bombard it.

Jalili, who serves currently as the representative of Iran's Supreme Leader to the National Security Council, added that while Fordo is being monitored by the IAEA inspectors, the U.S. and the P5+1 group are insisting on its closure, because they have announced that the facility is built into a deep mountain and cannot be bombarded.

According to the NPT, every country has the right to uranium enrichment, Iran's Mehr news agency quoted Jalili as saying May 29.

"In such a situation, can be trust in words and pledges of these enemies, who are dominating the global nuclear power? These are the same enemies who provided Iraq with all weapons it needed during the eight-year sacred defense to destroy the Islamic Republic."

Iran and world powers reached a framework agreement on April 2 on implementation of some restrictions over Iran's nuclear program for at least a decade.

Iran will have only one uranium enrichment plant, Natanz, also Iran will change the Fordo uranium enrichment plant to a nuclear research site, according to a joint announcement.

In exchange, the EU and the US will halt their sanctions on Iran after reaching a comprehensive nuclear deal (expected to be achieved by June 30).
