Mass arrests were carried out in the Turkish capital of Ankara as part of the fight against terrorism, Turkish channel TRT Haber said on Tuesday. The operations for the arrests were carried out in 26 locations. Currently 25 people are reported as being arrested in Ankara.

Operations for the arrests are being carried out as part of the fight against the mass unrest in several provinces of Turkey which began with a strike in Istanbul's Taksim Square, the channel reports. The authorities have accused some of the rioters as having links with terrorist and other prohibited groups.

Besides Ankara, the operation to arrest those suspected of terrorism have been carried out in several other provinces of Turkey, including Istanbul and Eskisehir. In Istanbul, the number of those arrested amounted to 13.

Protests have been continuing in Turkey for more than 20 days. According to the representatives of the authorities, the protests already have an anti-government character.

The Turkish opposition parties also accused the police of using excessive force against the protesters.

Earlier, the Interior Minister of Turkey said that an investigation is being carried out in connection with the use of excessive force against the protesters.
