Population's income

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 16.163 billion manat in January-May 2015, which is 5.8 percent more compared to January-May 2014.

Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 4.5 percent and hit 1702.4 manat.

The population's income after paying all required fees and membership fees made up 14.605 billion manat, which is 5.7 percent more than in the same period of 2014. Real income per capita increased by 4.4 percent to 1538.3 manat.

Azerbaijani citizens spent 73.9 percent to purchase goods and services, 9.6 percent - to pay for taxes, duties, loans, social and insurance fees, 2.5 percent - to pay off the loans and mandatory membership dues, 14.0 percent - to accumulate the capital during this period.

Salary

The salary is one of the key social and economic indicators, which sufficiently enough characterizes the level of the prosperity of the working part of the population. According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the average monthly salary in Azerbaijan in January-May 2015 comprised 452.3 manat compared to 449.5 manat as of the same period of 2014.

As of May 1, 2015, the average salary in the oil sector amounted to 1968.9 manat per month, while in non-oil sector - 414.8 manat, in the public sector - 350.6 manat, in the private sector - 595.1 manat.

The highest salary was observed in the mining industry, financial, information and communication, scientific and technical activity, as well as the construction sectors.

As of January-April 2015, around 91,500 people were involved in the construction sector of Azerbaijan. The nominal salary in the construction sector amounted to 665.9 manat, which is 8.5 percent more than in the same period of last year.

The average salary in the public sector amounted to 480.9 manat (3.1 percent decrease during a year), while in the private sector - 734.5 manat (10.2 percent growth).

The salary in the field of building construction decreased by 3.7 percent - an average of 532.3 manat, while the salary in the specialized construction increased by 37.2 percent - up to 1203.8 manat.

Labor market

As of June 1, 2015, some 29,300 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 39.0 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report said.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the unemployment benefit amount reduced by 3.5 percent in Azerbaijan in May 2015 compared to April. Taking into account the negative inflation per month (0.6 percent), the real amount of the unemployment benefit decreased by 2.9 percent.

As of June 1, some 2,207 people received it compared to 2,085 as of May 1, some 961 people as of April 1, 2015.

As of June 1, 2015, the largest number of unemployed people (11,773 people - only 652 of them received benefits) was registered in 12 administrative districts of Baku and 18 regions of Aran economic region (7,277 and 401 people respectively). As of June 1, the able-bodied population was 4.860 million citizens compared to 4.856 million citizens as May 1, 4.851 million people as of April 1, 4.878 million people as of March 1, 4.844 million people as of February 1 and 4.841 million people as of January 1, 2015.

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of early June 2015, the economically active population is 4.860 million people, of which 4.623 million people were engaged in labor activity. In this case, as of June 1, 2015, the number of hired persons is 1.505 million people, including 874,700 people worked in the public sector, and 630,000 people - in private sector.

The number of people working in the oil sector amounted to 35,200 people, in the non-oil sector - 1.470 million people. Around 1.460 million people among hired employees work in non-agricultural sphere.

Around 21.8 percent fall to the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 6.7 percent in construction, 6.5 percent in manufacturing industry, 3.0 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.3 percent - in the mining industry, 1.9 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, 1.7 percent - in water supply, waste recycling, 22.5 percent in education, 18.9 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.8 percent - medical and social services, 6.7 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.6 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.8 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.8 percent - professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.7 percent - communication and information, 2.3 percent - financial and insurance activities, 0.9 percent - real estate transactions, 1.6 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.5 percent - tourist accommodation and catering and 1.1 percent - other areas.

The State Employment Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection employed 11,114 unemployed people and job seekers in January-May. Moreover, some 1,477 people received temporary work, 410 more people were involved in paid public work in January-May. Some 1,453 people attended the professional training courses.

Social Security

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the targeted social assistance amount is being increased in Azerbaijan amid a decrease in the number of beneficiaries. Its amount increased by 15.4 percent in May and reached 146.78 manat on average per family. The number of beneficiaries decreased by 16 percent to 115,415 families (503,181 people). Some 21,987 families (96,644 people) were withdrawn from the targeted social assistance system during a year.
