President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the commander of the US Central Command Lloyd Austin on Thursday, Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) reported.

According to UzA, bilateral issues, including cooperation in ensuring security and stability in the region were discussed at the meeting. An exchange of views on the prospects of a peaceful settlement of situation in Afghanistan was also carried out.

Islam Karimov noted the constructive and progressive nature of Uzbek-American dialogue that allows for the consistent deepening of ties in all spheres of mutual interest.

In turn, the head of the US Central Command underscored the interest of the US leadership in the further development of relations between the two countries.

It was reported that the day before Lloyd Austin and Uzbek Foreign Ministry officials discussed Uzbek-American relations in various fields, international and regional issues, including Afghanistan and previously signed bilateral agreements.

As it was reported earlier, the former commander of the US Central Command General James Mattis visited Uzbekistan in March last year.

In October 2012, the commander of US Transportation Command William Fraser III visited Uzbekistan for consultations with country's government. During the visit, he held meetings with the Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov and Defense Minister Kabul Berdiyev, in order to discuss the issues related to the Northern Distribution Network.
