Spokeswoman of Iran's Foreign Minister Marziyeh Afkham said that Iran support Russia's proposal to Syria about the chemical weapons.

Afkham during a press conference, published live from IRINN TV on Sep.10, said that Iran evaluated Russian initiative in framework of preventing militarization in the region.

She also underlined that terrorists involved in Syrian battle also hold chemical weapons and they should give up their chemical weapons as well.

Iran names rebels who are fighting with Bashar al-Assad's regime as terrorists.

Afkham said that Iran has deep concerns about starting a war in the region and any act that makes the situation uncontrollable.

US President Barack Obama told broadcaster CNN on Monday that a Russian proposal to impound Syria's chemical weapons stockpile was "certainly a positive evelopment", dpa reported.

The proposal earlier Monday was quickly accepted by Syria, after being offered by its ally, Russia. Obama noted that the offer was coming only amid a threat of US strikes in response to alleged deadly nerve gas attacks last month on Syrian civilians, with the US Congress possibly voting this week on authorization for military action.

He said that the idea for the Syrian regime to relinquish control of its chemical weapons "may have a chance of success."

Amid a series of television interviews being aired late Monday, Obama told Fox News that the impound idea was "something we're going to run to ground" in the next few days.
