Ashton meetings amount to meddling: Iran students

A group of Iranian students have voiced anger at a series of meetings held by European Union's foreign policy chief, Catherin Ashton, during her recent visit to Iran, Press TV reported.

The protesters gathered outside the Austrian Embassy in Tehran on Wednesday to condemn Ashton's meeting with people they said were connected to post-election events back in 2009.

The protesters stated that the meeting was tantamount to interference in Iran's internal affairs.

"Ms. Ashton, here is not Ukraine," read one of the placards the protesters were carrying during their protest gathering, which was held amid tightened security around the Austrian Embassy.

The protesters also chanted slogans against the United States, Israel and Britain.

They criticized the US-led invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq and years of bloody war, questioning the West's claims of support for human rights while turning a blind eye to massive loss of civilian lives in the war-torn countries.

The students also called on the government of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to take measures to prevent the meetings by foreign officials with those convicted in connection to the 2009 post-election events.
