A bomb blast at a coffee shop and a billiard hall in west Baghdad late Thursday killed at least 25 people and wounded 50 others people, the state-run National Iraqi News Agency reported.

The agency, quoting police sources, said a suicide bomber blew himself up in the coffee shop in the mostly Muslim-Sunni Amriyah neighborhood, dpa reported.

Three children were among the dead, the agency said. It added that heavy damage was inflicted in the area where the blast took place.

Iraq has witnessed near-daily attacks since US troops withdrew in December 2011.

Violence has been on the rise in the run-up to local elections to be held Saturday in 12 of Iraq's 18 provinces.
