Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Iran should use its political clout to stop the violence in Syria instead of making statements on a system (Patriot missile defense system) that was solely for defense purposes, Anadolu Agency reported.
Davutoglu held a joint press conference with his Kosovar counterpart Enver Hoxhaj in Ankara.
Answering a question on statements made by Iranian officials regarding the deployment of Patriots in Turkey, Davutoglu said both Turkey and NATO reiterated that the system was only for defense purposes, again and again.
He said Turkey had the right to do anything and take any precautions to protect its territory and would do so when necessary.
Davutoglu said it was time for Iran to give a clear message to Syrian regime.
