A termless sit-down protest continues in front of Yerevan city hall. The participants of the protest require dismissal of the head of public transportation department of the city hall Genrikh Navasardian and director of Yerevantrans Misak Hambardzumyan, Armenia Today reported.
Activists note that they are ready to spend day and night in front of the city hall till their demands are met. Activists also demand that the illegal decision on increasing public transport prices should be cancelled not, not suspended.
New tariffs for public transport in Yerevan came into force from July 20: 150 drams for travel on fixed-run taxi and bus, instead of previous 100 drams; and 100 drams for travel on trolleybus, instead of previous 50 drams.
New rise in prices caused protests among the population of the country against the background of rise of gas and electricity prices. The youth became the active participants of these protests.
As a result, the mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan appealed to capital's population with a message stating that it was decided to suspend the rise in prices of public transport.
