Strong wind and snowfall have caused a number of problems in Georgia's power supply system, Georgian Deputy Minister of Energy Irakli Khmaladze said at a press conference on Dec.4.

Currently, several regions are not being provided with electricity, Khmaladze said. Around 62,000 customers of Energo-Pro Georgia and 17,000 customers of "Kakheti Energy Distribution" have been left without electricity.

"The weather sharply worsened throughout Georgia and this hindered the reconstruction works. But today the weather has stabilized in all regions. Technical teams of companies are working round-the-clock to restore power," Khmaladze said.

"According to our forecasts, up to 10,000 customers will remain without electricity till the end of the day. These are mainly highland villages which are difficult to access due to adverse meteorological conditions. Energo-Pro Georgia is trying to restore power and presumably electricity in these villages will be resumed on Dec.5 in the morning," Khmaladze said.
