European Union President Herman Van Rompuy told the United Nations Wednesday the world must revive its commitment to work together to fight its economic problems, DPA reported.

"In 2008, at the start of the global financial crisis, there was a brief moment of global awareness, a sense of urgency which led to new forums, joint pledges and coordinated action," he said in the UN General Assembly in New York.

"Today, although the crisis is still with us, this post-Lehman resolve seems to have waned, and we must revive it."

He called on all major economies to do their part to bolster growth and take necessary structural reforms.

He pointed to steps being taken in Europe and said no effort would be spared to address the bloc's crisis.

"Europe will come out of this experience stronger economically and politically," he vowed.
