The software piracy level in Azerbaijan in 2011 was 87 percent, or one point less than in 2010, Business Software Alliance (BSA) reported today.

"The stabile improvement of the situation has been recently observed in Azerbaijan," the report said. The piracy rate in the country was 94 percent in 2006, in 2007 - 92 percent, in 2008 - 90 percent, in 2009 and 2010 - 88 percent.

According to BSA, the market volume of illegal software used in Azerbaijan in 2011 was 67 million or $10 million more than in 2010.

In general, the commercial value of unlicensed software in the world increased from $58.8 billion in 2010 to $63.4 billion in 2011. This new record was set due to the increased supply of personal computers to the countries with developing economies.

The piracy rate in Moldova is 90 percent, Armenia - 88 percent, Belarus - 87 percent, Kazakhstan - 76 percent, Russia - 63 percent among the CIS countries.

The highest level of pirated products was in neighboring Georgia at 91 percent.

The survey results covered 15,000 PC users.
