Azerbaijan and Afghanistan considered the opportunities of cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies, UNDP said today.

The issues related to cooperation between two countries were discussed, Afghanistan's current needs in ICT field were determined, focus areas and future events on related issue were identified in the meeting.

From this point, a delegation of the Government of Afghanistan headed by Barialai Hassam, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies visited Azerbaijan for the 1st Meeting of the Working Group on cooperation in the field of ICT between Azerbaijan and Afghanistan.

In the framework of the visit, Hassam met with Elmir Velizadeh, Deputy Minister of the MCIT, Ashraf Shikhaliyev, Director of Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) and Nato Alhazishvili, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Azerbaijan.

As a result of this visit, a Working Group consisting of MCIT Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, AIDA, and UNDP Country Offices in both countries has been established.

The purpose of the meeting which was to discuss Azerbaijan's potential involvement in the development of Afghanistan's ICT sector, Afghanistan's current needs in ICT field, identification of focus areas and projects to be implemented in Afghanistan.
