Azerbaijan has managed to create an excellent infrastructure and favorable conditions for two years and a half for the athletes and the fans who came to the first European Games in Baku, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin said at the opening ceremony of the House of Russian fans in Baku June 12.

Azerbaijan has managed to create an excellent infrastructure and favorable conditions in just two and a half years for the athletes and the fans who came to the first European Games in Baku, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin said at the opening ceremony of the House of Russian fans in Baku June 12.

He said that both the Olympic Village and the transport logistics easily fit in the life of athletes.

"We came to Baku and observed the preparation for the European Games proceeding from the experience of the Olympic Games in Sochi," he said. "I want to congratulate Azerbaijan with great organizing."

"Azerbaijan's experience in organizing such a big event can be useful for many countries in the future," he said.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent underway June 12-28.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
