"The Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh" Public Union does not want the opening of the Turkish-Armenian border, Chairman of the coordinating council of the union, Orkhan Akbarov told Trend today.
"Turkey has repeatedly stated at a high level that the Turkish-Armenian border will not be opened until the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved in favor of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and that these terms will not be the subject of discussion," he said.
He said that various circles have repeatedly put forward initiatives to open the border.
Armenia's attempts to stir this issue are pure populism. Such initiatives were often suggested, but failed, he said.
Yerevan's calls for the recognition of the "Armenian genocide" by the international community and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenian armed forces are the reasons for broken relations between Turkey and Armenia as well as the 1993 closure of their border.
