A forest fire that started yesterday at 4:00 p.m. in Azerbaijan's Ismayilli region has been extinguished.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at about 3:00 a.m., Ismayilli Region Emergency Situations Commission head Rafael Ahmadov told Trend.
"There are not threats in the area now," he said. "The fired area is under full control."
The fire occurred in the Shahdag National Park near the Dialli village.
Ahmadov said the beech, hornbeam, oak and birch trees burned down in the fire.
Fire-fighting equipment could not be used due to the rocky terrain in the area, he said. Rural residents also helped to put out the fire together with Emergency Situations Ministry staff.
Ahmadov said the cause of the fire has not yet been established and the incident is under investigation.
The fire broke out around Talistan Forestry No. 5 in the Shahdag National Park, the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry told Trend. It covered an area of 2.5 hectares.
All measures have been taken to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas, the ministry said.
A fire also occurred at the border area between the territory and the municipality on Dec. 2. The fire swept across an area of up to two hectares. The fire burnt dry leaves and shrubs.
