Twelve Azerbaijani Opposition Parties Reach Agreement to Perform Common Position in Formation of Election Commission

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I. Alizadeh / Twelve Azerbaijani parties reached an agreement on the formation of election commissions on a parity basis.

A Task Group was established to render assistance to the opposition to reach a common position concerning the formation of election commissions.

The agreement was achieved in the headquarters of the Classic Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA) on 25 October.

Attending the meeting were representatives of CPFPA, Azerbaijani National Democratic Party (ANDP), Musavat, Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP), Open Society Party, Umid, Azadlig, Nationalistic Party of Turkey, and Azad Azerbaijan Party.

Representatives of Adalat, Great Establishment, and Khalg Parties did not attend the meeting due to valid reasons.

The Azerbaijani Government and Council of Europe's Venice Commission will hold a meeting in order to improve the Election Code of Azerbaijan with the participation of political parties in Baku on 9 November.

If the decision on formation of the election commission on a parity basis is to be passed, the division of opposition seats would be agreed during the assembly of the opposition parties. However, the proposal on formation of the election commissions on a parity basis does not need to be passed then, and opposition parties will not attend the meeting scheduled for 9 November.
