Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 January / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The Ambassador Agshin Mehtiyev, a permanent representative of Azerbaijan to UN, believes that recognition of independence of Kosovo currently is impossible.

"The United States, Britain and France support the recognition of Kosovo's independence. However, the decision of the UN Security Council is being undertaken by its all member-countries agreement," Mehtiyev said to Trend on 18 January, commenting on blocking the issue to define the status of Kosovo within the framework of UN Security Council.

UN Security Council discussed the report of the UN mission to Kosovo on 16 January. Russia stated that it would not agree to the resolution which would recognize Kosovo's independence without the permission of Serbia. Other members of UN Security Council, China, Vietnam, South Africa and Panama have also made similar statements.

Mahti Ahtisaari's plan, which stipulates the independence status with Albanian majority, is the only way out of the problem," the United States believes.

The political problem on the status went a further stage after the Security Council discussed the latest report of international mediators (EU, Russia and United State) during the closed meeting, as well as the statements by the Prime Minister of Serbia and Kosovo President.
