Azerbaijani Ruling Party May Make Staff and Structural Changes

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 May / Trend corr. G. Jabiyev / The ruling New Azerbaijan party (NAP) may hold staff and structural changes.

"Naturally, the issue on changes in these spheres as well as others will depend upon the recommendations of Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of the party to the Executive Secretary and NAP Board Council," MP Mubariz Gurbanli, Deputy Executive Secretary of NAP, stated to Trend .

The 4th NAP meeting is scheduled for summer 2008. The candidate from the party for the presidential post will be specified during the meeting. Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Executive Secretary of NAP, informed journalists that the candidature of Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani President and Chairman of NAP, would be nominated from NAP.

Gurbanli stated the date for the meeting had not yet been confirmed. "The date for the meeting will be specified after the start of the election campaign," he stated.

NAP was founded in Nakhchivan in 1992.  The all-nation leader, the late ex-President Heydar Aliyev was the Party's first Chairman. President Ilham Aliyev is the current chairman of the Party, which has been in power for 14 years.
