Kyrgyz President Kurbanbek Bakiev will run in the next presidential elections.
Former opposition leader Bakiev was elected president in 2005.
Many candidates will run in the election, he said.
Bakiev refused to provide any names.
The date of the next election has yet to be determined.
The president said the next election will be held no earlier than 2010.
His opponents believe the election should be held before October 2009.
"We will act in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court," he said.
The political situation in the country is unstable. The opposition sent an open letter to Bakiev in January asking him to resign.
