The EU is interested in political and economic stability and is prepared to suggest huge aid as part of the Eastern Partnership program, European Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner said as a result of meetings of the EU Council on Foreign Relations on Feb. 23.
"We see clear necessity in expanding our "game" in Eastern neighborhood after the war in Georgia and crisis between Ukraine and Russia," Waldner said.
The Eastern Partnership program will be launched at the EU summit in Prague on May 7.
Waldner is sure that the requests for additional funds for the Eastern Partnership program will be approved. She requested €350 million more in addition to €250 million which is already used, she said.
On Dec. 4, the European Commission made a decision to support the initiative of Poland and Sweden on EU's new policy Eastern Partnership envisaging closer cooperation with Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Negotiations on visa abolition, introduction of free trade zones and conclusion of strategic agreements will be held as within the organization. Small projects on exchange of students, environmental protection and energy supply will also be implemented.
