Number of video cameras to be increased to prevent crime in Azerbaijan: Interior Ministry

The number of video cameras will be increased to prevent crime and maintain public order in Azerbaijani capital.

"About 1,200 cameras will be installed in various places in Baku by the end of the year," Interior Ministry spokesperson Sadig Gozalov told Trend .   

Cameras will enable to continuously exercise control over law and order in the capital city and respond to unlawful actions and emergency situations quickly.

About 10 million manat has been allocated for the Safe City project.

Gozalov said as many as 625 cameras have been installed in 228 places in Baku. The cameras are installed in crowded places, bridges and buildings of public importance, he said.

As many as 4,000 will be installed in 1,000 places in Baku at an early stage, he said.

A gunman the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on April 30. The gunman entered the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy in Baku and climbed five floors of the building, shooting everyone he met along the way and killed 12, wounded 13. The attack was committed by 29-year-old Georgian citizen Gadirov Farda Asad oglu by Makarov pistol. The fire killed 12 and wounded 13. Three of the wounded have been discharged from hospital.
