Azerbaijani court not acquits editor-in-chief charged with treason

Azerbaijani court did not acquit editor-in-chief charged with treason.

The Supreme Court rejected appeal of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Linguistics Department former head and editor-in-chief of Talishi Sado newspaper Novruzali Mammadov and former fellow of the Linguistics Department Elman Guliyev, Mammadov's lawyer Ramiz Mammadov told Trend .

The Supreme Court upheld decision of the first-instance court.

Novruzali Mammadov and Elman Guliyev were arrested in early Feb. 2007.

Mammadov and Guliyev are charged with treason (247), instigating national, racial and religious trouble (283) and have been sentenced to 10 and 6 years in jail respectively.
