Senior officers not arrested, but appointed to other positions: Azerbaijani defense ministry

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 23 / Trend , J.Babayeva/

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied reports on the arrest of the group of senior officers due to violations in the ministry's training center.

"Persons in these reports are appointed to other positions, and reports about their arrest do not reflect reality," Deputy Head of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Press Service Teymur Abdullayev told Trend on June 23.

On June 22, the Azerbaijani media spread reports arrest of senior officers due to crimes occurred in the ministry's training center.

Under the reports, majority of military units have undergone inspections after dismissing Chief of the training centre Major-General Lankaran Aliyev. The inspections revealed huge facts of embezzlement. A lawsuit was filed on articles of the Criminal Code on misappropriation, use of official powers for personal purposes and service fraud. Chief of Automobile Service, Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mammadov, Chief of Housing and Operational Services Colonel Lieutenant Elshan Abbasov, Commander of Training Conveyors, Senior Commander of Extended Service Men, Captain Ramil Hammadov, and Chief of Fuel Depots, Senior Parporshik Fikrat Abbasov were arrested.

Under media outlets, chief of the clothing service of the training centre Major Nazim Hasanov and Chief of financial service, Lieutenant-Colonel Intigam Movlanverdiyev were involved in the investigation. It is also noted that Major-General Lankaran Aliyev also gave testimony and his involvement in the case is under investigation.
