Azerbaijan, Baku, August 8 / Trend , R.Hafizoglu /
Turkish expert thinks that despite country authorities and security forces' numerous operations against the network of "Ergenekon" that exists in the country, bringing the fight with the organization to the end will fail.
"Despite all attempts by the authorities, bringing the fight with the organization to the end will fail," Turkish expert Shamil Teyar told Trend by telephone from Ankara.
In mid last year, a network operating under the name "Ergenekon" was revealed in Turkey. The government called it a terrorist organization. As a result of numerous operations by the security forces, were arrested rectors of many universities acting in concert with the secret terrorist organization. Ten operations were held against the terrorist network "Ergenekon" in Turkey. And in April 2009 were detected attempts by the organization against the Prime Minister Rajap Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul. Later the Turkish press published a document on allegedly preparation of a coup by the Turkish army against the ruling party on 12 June. The document alleged a military coup against the ruling party, which was approved by the Turkish Army Colonel Dursun Chichek. While Chief of General Staff, Army General Ilker Bashbuh stated that there was no such plan, on 30 June Colonel Chichek was arrested, but freed two days later.
In his interview with the Turkish press, ex-Secretary of the National Security Council of Turkey Tundzher Kilidzh said that he considers the operations by "Ergenekon" as an attempt by Islamist forces in Turkey to take the revenge from the armed forces of the country.
According to Teyar, despite the cool relations between the government and army regarding "Ergenekon", operations in this direction will continue.
"I consider that if the "Ergenekon" organization raises such a provocative issue to close ruling party, the government will take more stringent measures against the organization," said Teyar.
The expert thinks that despite the operations carried out against "Ergenekon", the organization would not leave the country. "In spite of the operations against the organization, there is no probability of organization's transition to the neighboring countries and Turkic-speaking countries or probability of its expansion within the country," said Teyar.
With regards to inability to bring the fight against "Ergenekon" to the end, Teyar explained this through the lack of unity in the actions of state agencies. "Unlike Turkey, in many European countries, relevant public authorities are working together in combating illegal organizations," he said.
Teyar considers that there is serious discontent in the army, court agencies and opposition parties with regards to operations carried out against "Ergenekon". "Not everyone provides enough support in operations against "Ergenekon"," he said.
The expert believes that in general, compared to previous years, now there are much greater achievements in Turkey in combating illegal organizations.
