Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has signed a decree "On transfer of the Armed Forces, other Turkmen troops, performing military service by conscription, to the reserve and enlisting of Turkmen citizens to military service."

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has signed a decree "On transfer of the Armed Forces, other Turkmen troops, performing military service by conscription, to the reserve and enlisting of Turkmen citizens to military service."

The document envisages to transfer to reserve the Armed Forces, other Turkmen troops, performing military service by conscription, who served their terms set by the law, in October-December 2009; to enlist the Turkmen male citizens, aged 18 by the day of call-up, but without a right for draft deferment in the armed forces, and citizens who aged 17, at their personal request, for voluntary military service.

According to the Turkmen military doctrine, the country follows the status of positive neutrality and does not enter any military-political blocs.
