Committee head meets met with Georgian patriarch

Azerbaijani State Committee for Religious Organizations Chairman Hidayat Orujov is on a four-day visit to Georgia. His first meeting was with Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.

Azerbaijani State Committee for Religious Organizations Chairman Hidayat Orujov is on a four-day visit to Georgia. His first meeting was with Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.

"The meeting revolved around religious issues," the patriarch said after the meeting. "We also discussed opening a Georgian church in Baku."

He also wished the Georgian and Azerbaijani peoples a deepening friendship.

"This will guarantee stability for both countries," he said.

Orujov noted that the meeting with the patriarch has been fruitful.

"I always listen with great attention to the preachings of Ilia II," Orujov said.

He was invited to Georgia upon invitation from State Diaspora Minister Yulon Gagoshidze.

During his visit, Orujov will meet with Diaspora Affairs Parliamentary Committee Chairman Yulon Gagoshidze, Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava, Relations with Compatriots Residing Abroad Parliamentary Committee Chairman Nugzar Tsiklauri, State Reintegration Minister Temur Yakobashvili, Kvemo Kartli Region Governor David Kirkitadze and Deputy Parliamentary Spokesman and head of the the Georgian-Azerbaijani Parliamentary Group Fridon Todua.

Orujov will also visit locations densely populated with Azerbaijanis and get acquainted with their living conditions.
