Over 110 kg of drugs seized in Azerbaijan’s southern region in 2009

Over 111 kilograms of drugs or 32 kilogram less compared to 2008 have been seized in the southern region of Azerbaijan in 2009.
"Drugs weighing 111.676 kilograms, including 92.169 kilograms of hashish, 17.445 kilograms of heroin, 262 grams of opium, 1.800 kilograms of psychotropic drugs, have been seized from illegal drug trafficking in Azerbaijan's southern region under 55 criminal facts," the Interior Ministry's Head Department on Combating Drug regional office told Trend .
In 2008, illegal trafficking of 143.525kilograms of drugs was taken under 63 criminal facts. Thirty-nine people, including two women and four Iranian citizens were arrested on these facts.
Thirty-five people were arrested in connection with illegal drug trafficking in 2009.
"Three of them are women residing in this region and eight are Iranian citizen," the statement said.
A large part of drugs - 50.419 kilograms - were seized from trafficking by the law-enforcement agencies falls to Lankaran region.
Fourteen facts of illegal drug trafficking are associated with smuggling.
