U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, who is known in Azerbaijan for her involvement in postponing the senatorial review of Matthew Bryza as the next U.S. ambassador to the country, did not attend the President Truman Awards last week, the Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC) reported.

The Democratic Party in Orange County, California traditionally presents the President Truman Awards to the party's most active members in local and federal government. This year, Boxer was awarded the prize for her significant contribution to protecting the environment.

The AAC noted that, to the surprise of her fellow party members, Boxer did not attend the event. She explained that she could not attend due to her busy schedule in light of the upcoming senatorial elections this November. However, her absence could more easily be explained by the protests outside the awards venue by her disgruntled electorate. Apparently, Boxer was ashamed to make an appearance before California's voters.

The meeting was attended by AAC board members Javid Huseynov and Ismayil Rustamov.
