The U.N. General Assembly will vote on a resolution initiated by Georgia on the status of IDPs and refugees from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali on Sept. 7.

Despite resistance from Russia, Georgia hopes the vote will yield a positive result, Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said today.

She noted that the status of refugees in no less important than the de-occupation of the regions, and stressed that the resolution addresses ways to protect their rights.

"The voting on the resolution will be held on Sept. 7. Russia will oppose, but we had serious talks with all of the U.N. member states and hope for their support," Kalandadze said.
