Ceremony of opening memorial plaque to Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev takes place in Vologda

The ceremony of opening a memorial plaque to Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Belyaev Park in Vologda was conducted in connection with the National Unity Day of Russia, the press service of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Saint Petersburg said.
Being a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Heydar Aliyev came to Vologda in the summer of 1983 to give the city the Order of the October Revolution "For the successes achieved by city workers in the economic and cultural development, the revolutionary achievements and contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War". During his visit, Heydar Aliyev visited the factories, the museum and planted an oak in a park near the monument to Belyaev.
According to information, the ceremony was attended by vice-governor of the Vologda oblast Nikolai Vinogradov, the mayor of Vologda Yevgeni Sulepov and other officials, public representatives, heads of diplomatic missions of Ukraine, Belgium, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Romania, Tajikistan, Angola, Peru and other countries accredited in St. Petersburg, Russian Foreign Ministry representative in St. Petersburg, members of the Azerbaijani diaspora, representatives of Azerbaijani youth studying in Vologda, and representatives of Russian and Azerbaijani media outlets.
Making a speech at the opening of the memorial plaque, the vice-governor of Vologda Vinogradov described world-famous politician Heydar Aliyev's essential merits in friendly relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, who has devoted his life to the progress of Azerbaijan. He noted that opening the plaque on this festive day will create grounds for further strengthening relations between the two friendly countries.
Noting Heydar Aliyev's role in the Azerbaijani-Russian relations, the mayor of Vologda Sulepov said that the genius leader has made a breakthrough in bilateral relations. Telling about the merits of a prominent statesman in the development of the Vologda oblast, the mayor showed photos from a photo album taken during Heydar Aliyev's visits.
Speaking about National Leader Heydar Aliyev's political activities and high merits to the Azerbaijani people, the consul general of Azerbaijan in Saint Petersburg Gudsi Osmanov said the great leader has always paid a high attention to fellow citizens living outside Azerbaijan. He noted that opened at the initiative of the inhabitants of Vologda on the Russian National Unity Day, the plaque to a great leader is a shining example of friendship between peoples. The Consul general also stressed that the friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, which are the result of the successful policies pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, as the successor of the political legacy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, are developing rapidly.
Osmanov presented to the mayor of Vologda a book "Part of my soul in Russia...", which tells about Heydar Aliyev's political activities in Russia.
