There are a number of protracted conflicts in the OSCE region and people residing in such conditions are waiting for resolution of the problem, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said while addressing the OSCE summit in Astana.
"I say you can reply on the UN," he added.
Ban Ki-Moon recalled that UN declared 2010 the year of women and children.
"And we can solve these issues [protracted conflicts], sorting out the problems of children and women. Women are the path to peace," he stressed.
It is planned to attach special attention to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at the OSCE summit among the protracted conflicts
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the United States- are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
