Georgia's strategic course of European integration remains unchanged, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told journalists after meeting with the foreign ministers of the countries involved in the EU Neighborhood Policy in Brussels.
The foreign ministers discussed the agenda of the Eastern Partnership Program summit to be held in Budapest on May 27, 2011 with European Council representatives.
"We made a number of not only technical, but also political proposals that should be clarified in the process of the European Partnership Program's integration into the EU," he said. "For us, this is a strategic goal and we intend to obtain specific proposals for fulfilling the terms of the EU."
Vashadze said the EU notes the "considerable progress" toward Georgia's European integration and that Georgia "highly appreciates" such an assessment.
"But we need specific guidelines to fulfill the EU's conditions, and we want to hear them at the summit," he noted.
The Eastern Partnership Program is a Polish-Swedish initiative under the EU Neighborhood Policy aimed at improving EU relations with six former Soviet countries Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine and Armenia. The program envisages the allocation of 600 million euro to these countries until 2013 to strengthen state institutions, control borders and help small companies. The program's constituent summit was held in Prague on May 7, 2008.
