Azerbaijani ambassador to Mexico Ilgar Mukhtarov handed over the credentials on his appointment to this country to the Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom Caballeros, the Embassy said.
The diplomat conveyed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's greetings to Guatemalan President and invitation to pay a visit to the country.
The meeting discussed prospects for development of relations between the two countries, including energy cooperation, and political relations. Mukhtarov told the Guatemalan President about the history and culture of Azerbaijan, on the country's economic potential.
Mukhtarov also informed the Guatemalan leader about the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, as well as the negotiation process around the conflict.
The meeting also discussed cooperation in education. Mukhtarov informed Caballeroson opportunities for young diplomats and students specializing in the energy sector to get education in Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and the State Oil Academy.
Azerbaijani ambassador also handed over copies of credentials to the leadership of the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry and held several bilateral meetings in this country's Foreign Ministry, as well as with other Guatemalan officials.
