Azerbaijan is ready to study the best experiences of CIS countries in the electoral field and make valuable and reasonable recommendations, First Vice - Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said at a workshop on "Democracy and the electoral rights of citizens", held in the parliament on Monday. The workshop was organized for international observers and consultants in elections to the state bodies in CIS countries.

Asgarov said that Azerbaijan fully formed a democratic electoral system, and that this task has become one of the most important. After Azerbaijan gained independence, one of the main objectives was the formation of a democratic electoral system.

"Azerbaijan has begun to form traditions of democratic elections since 1993," he said. "There were four presidential and four parliamentary elections, three municipal elections and four referendums in Azerbaijan."

He stressed that Azerbaijani people have now fairly well mastered the culture of elections over the years.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Mikhail Krotov said that Azerbaijan's electoral practice can be an example for other CIS countries, and is highly necessary.

"The innovations used during ongoing elections in Azerbaijan are a good example," he said. "We should also take advantage of these innovations."

Krotov said that it is also important to increase the number of international observers during elections.
