Azerbaijan and Georgia discussed prospects for enhanced cooperation between intelligence agencies of both countries.

Azerbaijani Minister of National Security Eldar Mahmudov received a delegation headed by the head of intelligence of Georgia Gela Bezhuashvili on Thursday, Center for Public Affairs of the Ministry of National Security told Trend.

Mahmudov voiced his confidence that the visit will promote cooperation between the relevant agencies of both countries. He spoke about the current operational situation, the factors affecting it, the measures taken by Azerbaijan in the sphere of security and about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the problems it created.

The parties exchanged views on regional developments, measures to fight terrorism, extremism, illegal migration, as well as security of energy projects of regional and international importance.

Discussions focused on the prospects for enhanced cooperation between intelligence agencies of both countries in this regard.

Bezhuashvili thanked Mahmudov for sincere and warm reception and for detailed information. Special importance will be hence given to cooperation with the special services of Azerbaijan in ensuring regional security, Bezhuashvili noted.

The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
Before the meeting the guests and senior officials of the Ministry of National Security headed by Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov paid a tribute at graves of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the renowned ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva at the Alley of Honor.

Then, the delegations visited the Alley of Martyrs to pay tribute to heroic sons of Azerbaijan, who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of the country. The delegation laid a wreath at the memorial Eternal Flame.
