The UN expects from Georgia further development of democratic institutions, UNDP Associate Administrator Rebeca Grynspan said after the meeting with Chairman of Georgian Parliament David Bakradze.

She said Georgia reached progress in many areas of social development but the UN expects further development in the area of democratic institutions. Ms Grynspan noted non-government and parliamentary sectors, local government, electoral reform, gender equality of rights, infrastructure and urban development still require further development.

The main subject of the discussion at the meeting with Mr Bakradze was projects implemented in Georgia since 1994 and prospects of further cooperation.

Under the program project on overcoming poverty was implemented. The program also envisages development of local government, achieving gender equality of rights and development of other areas. Mr Grynspan assessed this meeting as an efficient one and noted she personally familiarized with what has been done and what can be done under the program.

Mr Bakradze stressed the UNDP is an old partner of Georgia and helps it fight poverty. "We are attentive toward views of our colleagues and want to maintain and develop relations," he said.
