Friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia will continue, Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov told Trend, commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia on Tuesday.

"I believe that the relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan are deep, friendly and partner relations. These friendly, fraternal and good-neighbourly relations between the two countries and nations will further continue in the same direction and in the same content," Mammadov said.

He said the fact that President Mikheil Saakashvili's party failed to get Georgian public support was surprising not only for him, but for everyone to some degree.

According to Mammadov, victory in the elections surprised the opposition itself, amd as the international community as well.

"It is necessary to wait for a while, as certain statements are made, and opinions are voiced on taking of various steps. It is necessary to wait a little, as the CEC should make its position public. Then we can express our opinion," Mammadov said.

The CEC has counted data from 3,590 (97.03 percent) out of 3,766 polling stations so far.

According to initial data, the opposition coalition "Bidzina Ivanishvili - Georgian Dream" continues to lead with 54.8 percent (1,154,533 votes).

The ruling party - "United National Movement-More Benefit for people" ranks second with 40.4 percent (845,169 votes).
