Azerbaijani President approves "Azerbaijan 2020: Look into the Future" Development Concept

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Saturday signed a decree to approve the "Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future" Development Concept.

The document says that ensuring balanced and sustainable development of the country's economy, improving social well-being of the population, as well as the formation of a qualitative new model of development by achieving organic connection and mutual coordination between the current, medium-and long-term socio-economic development, accelerating the progress of society in all areas, are the priorities of Azerbaijani state's activity.

In this regard, the Development Concept "Azerbaijan 2020: A look in the Future" has been prepared, based on the presidential decree dated Nov.29, 2011 No.1862, with the participation of relevant government agencies, research institutions and highly skilled specialists, as well as in terms of efficient cooperation with existing international organizations in the country.

Following the democratic principles, the Concept was submitted for open discussion, and the final document was compiled taking into account numerous opinions and proposals from interested parties, including civil society institutions and citizens.

The Development Concept "Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future" covers the main strategic goals of development policy in all areas of life in the country, and it will be realized through state programs, the decree says.

Azerbaijani Presidential Administration is instructed with general management and control over the fulfillment of the Development Concept.

In order to organize and coordinate the activities of state agencies in connection with the Development Concept, Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry is instructed to submit proposals on the establishment of the National Group for Activity on the Development Concept "Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future" and its composition to the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration within the two-month period; within two months submit a list of government programs, strategies, other documents and measures to the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, that will ensure the fulfillment of the Development Concept (including proposals for their preparation and term of execution, responsible government agencies); at least once a year inform Azerbaijani President on the work carried out to fulfill the Development Concept.

Heads of relevant government agencies are instructed to take necessary steps in accordance with the directions of their activity in order to meet the tasks on the Development Concept.
