By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

It is difficult to resolve the Syrian conflict by military means, so the crisis in the country may continue for a long time, Doctor of the Turkish University of Economics and Technology (TOBB) Haldun Yalcinkaya told Trend on March 4.

"The assumption that sooner or later Ankara will begin military intervention in Syria is unfounded," he added.

"If one considers the history of Turkey, then one can say that after the republic was declared [October 29, 1923], there was not aggression against neighbors in Ankara's politics," Yalchinkaya added.

The expert stressed that the continuation of the military conflict in Syria can help to ensure that the country will split into separate "states".

During the conflict in Syria which began in March 2011, over 140,000 people were killed and over 4.2 million have become refugees in Syrian territory as well as 2.3 million having fled to neighboring countries. The main burden of receiving refugees lay on Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. The total population of Syria before the conflict amounted to 20 million.
