OSCE PA committee chairperson makes statements upon instructions
Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 27
By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:
Isabel Santos, the chairperson of the Committee on Democracy and Human Rights of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, makes her statements in accordance with the instructions, Azay Guliyev, the deputy chairman of the Committee on Political Affairs and Security of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, told Trend Oct. 27.
Guliyev was commenting on Santos's statement about the situation in Azerbaijan on the eve of parliamentary election.
"This causes a feeling of regret," he said. "Despite the numerous protests and appeals to be fair and objective, Santos continues holding an unfounded and biased position against Azerbaijan."
Guliyev said that Santos is turning a blind eye to the current situation in other OSCE countries.
"We have repeatedly informed her that such propaganda, based on false information, is contrary to the OSCE general principles," he said. "I believe that discrediting of a certain country does not comply with the mandate of the Committee, specializing in democracy and human rights."
The parliamentary election will be held in Azerbaijan Nov. 1.
