BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. President of Latvia Edgars Rinkevičs has sent a congratulatory letter to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of May 28 - Azerbaijan's Independence Day, Trend reports.

“Your Excellency,

On the National Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan allow me to convey my most sincere congratulations along with the best wishes of peace and prosperity for your country and its people.

I am delighted that Latvia and Azerbaijan enjoy good and constructive relations and have developed a well-established cooperation in various fields of mutual interest. I would like to underline the importance of EU-Azerbaijan partnership, the need to continue working together on building a positive agenda and benefits that EU-Azerbaijan dialogue may bring in terms of economic cooperation and regional stability. In this regard I welcome your personal commitment to working towards a lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

It is my great pleasure to accept your kind invitation to the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku this November. I would also be grateful to have the opportunity to meet you during the COP29. I am certain that the COP29 in Baku will be successful and will give momentum for climate action.

This year we mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan and it is in my strong belief chat this anniversary will only further enhance the positive dynamics of these relations. In this light I look forward to welcoming you to Latvia this year.
