A ceremony to lay a foundation of a new airport took place in Zakatala District on 12 April. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony.
Earlier addressing the officers of military division N of the State Border Service of Zakatala District the President underlined that airports has existed in Zakatala and Shaki from the Soviet period, but they fell short of the necessary standards to admit the big airliners. After the commissioning of the new airport in Zakatala the issue will drop from the agenda and it will ensure necessary opportunities for the development of the tourism in the region, Aliyev added.
Aliyev called on the entrepreneurs to take an active part in the development of a tourist potential of the region and commission new infrastructure facilities.
The President will leave Zakatala for Gakh and Shaki.
