Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / Oruj Zalov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Interior Minister, stated on 6 July that experiments were in progress to increase district police officers' authority in the Mingachevir and Khachmaz regions of Azerbaijan and Narimanov district of Baku.
Zalov noted that the result of experiments would be considered in 2008. Once the results prove to be positive, the authority of the district police officers will be increased.
According to Zalov, district officers are permitted to become involved regarding cases of on-the-spot road traffic violations.
