Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Ramazanova / The democratic and economic situation in Azerbaijan will be discussed on 3 September in Brussels within the realization of the European Neighborhood Policy, said independent politician of Azerbaijan, Eldar Namazov, who has also been invited to the consultations as a representative of the civil society.
The delegation also includes Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, as well as politicians Leyla Aliyeva and Ilgar Mammadov, Executive Director of Soros Foundation, Ferda Asadov, Director of Turan news agency, Mehman Aliyev.
According to Namazov, the event will be opened by the Chairman of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barrozo. Attended by the high-ranking representatives of various EU committees, the event will focus on the reforms with regards to the protection of human rights, problems which exist in economic co-operation.
The consultations between Baku and Brussels regarding Action Plan within the European Neighborhood Policy commenced in November 2005.
The EU-Azerbaijan Co-operation Action Plan within European Neighborhood Policy was signed on 14 November 2006. It envisages further integration of Azerbaijan into the European Union, activation of the bilateral relations with regards to the economy and energy and strengthening of the political talks and regional security.
